NORFOLK, Va. - Downtown Norfolk's Restaurant Week begins Sunday, August 16, 2020 and will run through Sunday, August 23, 2020.

Restaurants across Norfolk's downtown are offering $12 lunches and brunches and dinners between $25 and $35, with options for dine-in and carryout.

At Freemason Abbey, this is the first time the restaurant is offering its restaurant week menu to-go. It's a response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Normally they do focus on it as an in-house promotion," said Colleen Jowers, general manager of Freemason Abbey. "This time we want to meet people where they want to be, which is in their houses."

That's not the only change. Jowers says pandemic restrictions in place only allow her to seat so many guests, but she insists the restaurant inside a historic church still has plenty of space.

It also has a restaurant week dinner menu full of new dishes like summer scallops and a pan-seared duck with blueberry lavender sauce.

“Our chefs have kind of full creative freedom back there but we actually do try the items ourselves," she said. "They come up with some ideas, we test them in our managers meeting and kind of finagle from there what works best for our menu."

According to the Downtown Norfolk Council's website, participating restaurants include Grain, Grace O'Malley's Irish Pub & Restaurant and Tap It Local, with many of the restaurants offering never-before-seen food and drink menus.
