MATHEWS Co., Va. - Several calls were made to officials on June 14 after witnesses reported an unresponsive drowning victim at New Point Comfort Lighthouse.
Medics and firefighters responded to the scene and determined the drowning had taken place in the Bavon Beach area.
Reports say that witnesses helped the victim to shore and started CPR however, medics pronounced the victim deceased at 6:15 p.m.
The victim was identified as a 44-year-old white male of Cobbs Creek.
Police say that during this incident another distress call was received for an overturn kayak in the same area. This subject made it to shore and was uninjured, reports say.
