Elizabeth City man arrested in connection with December shooting

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — Police have arrested an Elizabeth City man accused of shooting another man in December.

On Tuesday, officers arrested 26-year-old Thomas Shandell Stokley Jr. for Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, Possession of a Firearm by Felon, Go Armed to Terror of People and Discharging Firearm in City Limits.

Stokley is charged with a shooting that happened on December 27, 2019. Officers responded to the area of Corsair Circle and Liberator Street in reference to gunshots, arriving on scene to find 20-year-old Lazino Reaquon Shelton suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. EMS personnel took Shelton to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center for treatment.

Stokley was previously charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder in 2009, along with a long list of other charges.

Stokley was given an $87,000 secured bond and was taken to the Albemarle District Jail.

He is scheduled to appear in court on February 20 at 9:30 a.m.
