VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - 47-year-old Erik Mezick was driving a box truck on December 29 when it went over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel rail into the water.

The crash happened on the east side of the northbound span between North Channel Bridge and the northernmost island, Virginia Beach officials said.

Witnesses reported seeing a Mezick exit the tractor trailer and drift west in the water, according to officials.

The extensive search for Mezick was eventually called off by the Coast Guard and other first responders.

Now family and friends of Mezick are seeking help to find his body. They believe he could be in tributaries or in areas nearby.

Family and friends said they recognize the perils of being out on the water right now wither it be fishermen, crabbers, duck hunters etc., but they are asking boaters to take any extra time they may have to keep an eye out for Mezick's body.

They are offering a $10,000 reward for anyone who can provide information that leads to some closure by locating his body.

The reward is sponsored by friends and family and if you have information you can contact the family spokesperson Doug Marshall at 1-443-614-4340‬.

A couple shared photos of what appears to be the door of Mezick's truck with his friends and family. They said they found the door at Fort Story (pictured above).
