SUFFOLK, Va. - With a proactive response to the coronavirus outbreak – News 3 is seeing some school districts getting involved by making sure no child goes hungry.

On Wednesday, staff at King's Fork High School prepared and gave out meals to students who are in low income areas.

Suffolk Public Schools says in order to help out more families – school leaders have made adjustments to their bus routes to include additional food distribution stops.

School officials say going on from this week all the way to March 27, weekdays only, SPS will have bagged meals that will include both breakfast and lunch, available to students.

KFHS will be the main food distribution location. The school’s lobby will be open from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

The Food and Nutrition Department will also give out the bagged meals to students through the SPS transportation weekdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., to different locations throughout the school district.

Dr. Lawrence P. Whiting, the director of the Food and Nutrition Department, said “We sent out over sixteen hundred meals yesterday, we’ve doubled that today. The staff is doing a great job. We have a lot of cooperation between us and transportation. Our goal is to make sure every students that’s hungry gets a meal.”
