Gov. Northam to attend free COVID-19 testing event in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Virginia Governor Ralph Northam is scheduled to attend a community testing event in Chesapeake Friday.

The COVID-19 testing event is free and is organized by the Virginia Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Urban League of Hampton Roads, Chesapeake Regional Healthcare, Chesapeake Health Department and other community leaders.

The goal is to work together to provide free COVID-19 testing to an under served communities in Chesapeake.

The event will provide nasal-swab tests for up to 400 participants. Those who are symptom-free are encouraged to test and need not be residents of the Geneva Square community. Results will be delivered confidentially in approximately 48 hours.

Participants will receive food boxes, hand sanitizer, face masks, and other items.

The testing event is happening at 700 Geneva Avenue, Chesapeake from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Northam is expected to attend the event and to get tested around 10 a.m.
