ISLE OF WIGHT Co., Va. - Police received a report of an industrial accident at International Paper’s Franklin Mill around 9 p.m. on Thursday.
Emergency crews and Isle of Wight County Sheriff’s Office personnel arrived to find of first the accident involved a large crane, according to officials.
The International Paper emergency response team and on site medical personnel were working to remove the operator of the crane from the wreckage.
Officials said the crane operator succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident.
Virginia OSHA was notified along with The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Norfolk. I
Isle of Wight County Investigators performed a preliminary investigation and turned those results over to inspectors from Virginia OSHA.
The investigation is ongoing, and the cause of the incident has not been determined.
