JAMES CITY Co., Va. - A woman died from her injuries after a late January crash in James City County.

According to police, the crash occurred on January 31 at about 10:45 a.m. James City County Police and Fire Departments responded to the 4300 block of Longhill Road, where they found a 2007 Cadillac upside down and submerged in a swampy area.

The driver and vehicle's only occupant, 26-year-old Vanessa Nicole Gray, was trapped in the vehicle underwater. Medics extricated her from the vehicle, and she was taken to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center breathing on her own but unconscious.

Gray died from her injuries on February 14 at VCU Medical Center in Richmond.

While the investigation into the crash is ongoing, evidence suggests that icy road conditions contributed to the crash.
