VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - A man was sentenced to 15 years for his role in setting his home on fire that displaced his wife and four children.

37-year-old Shannon Cason was sentenced to 15 years with 8 suspended, leaving 7 years to serve.

In 2018, firefighters responded to the fire at a multi-family living facility in the 1900 block of Mill Creek Drive shortly after midnight. The fire caused extensive damage to the home, and huge flames burned a large hole through the roof.

No one was injured in the fire, but caused the family of six to be displaced.

Cason turned himself in to police and claimed to have been the one who started the fire.
