HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Three months after someone shot 12-year-old Jerome Johnson at the Lakefield Mews Apartments, Johnson is out of the hospital and continuing his long recovery from home.

On Christmas Eve, Henrico County Police officers arrived at Johnson's door bearing gifts.

"It feels good to just give back to the community, especially a child that suffered what he did," one officer said.

Johnson remains in a wheelchair.

"To have the opportunity to see him smile and make sure that he knows that he is still valued and that he is a child in our community that we are here for," Henrico Police Sgt. Michelle Sheehan said.

When asked what he wanted for Christmas, Johnson told the police all he needed were clothes and a fan.

But when pressed, he mentioned a new Xbox.

Community leaders and the officers collected money to fulfill Jerome's Christmas wish.

But the officers and Jerome's family agree -- the best gift would be to find the person who shot Jerome.

If you know who pulled the trigger on September 21 at the Lakefield Mews Apartments in Henrico, please call Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.
