Newport News Police investigate two overnight shootings leaving one dead, two injured

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Newport News Police are investigating two shootings that happened late Friday night.

After hearing gunshots, officers first responded to the 600th block of 25th Street at 11:38 p.m. According to a news release, they located a man with at least one gunshot wound.

23-year-old Stephen D. White was pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.

Police report that three males fled the area just after the shooting, according to survellience footage.

At 11:47 p.m. officers were dispatched to the 2000th block of Oak Avenue in reference to another shooting. When they arrived, they found two men with non-life threatening gunshot wounds. Both individuals were transported to a local hospital for treatment. It's not clear if the incidents are related.
