Newport News Police investigating armed robbery that left clerk injured

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Newport News Police Department responded to an armed robbery at a Speedway on Jefferson Avenue Friday night.

According to police, the call came in at 6:12 p.m. for a business robbery at 11702 Jefferson Avenue.

When officers arrived, they learned that a male and a female entered the business and demanded cash. One of them was armed with a firearm, and the other sprayed an unknown substance at the clerk.

The two took an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency and fled the area in a gray SUV.

The clerk was treated at the scene for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, according to police.
