Newport News police make arrest following barricade situation on 73rd Street

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — 57-year-old Newport News resident Moses Lee Tilfer Jr. has been arrested and faces charges due to his involvement in a barricade situation.

Just after 7:20 p.m. on Dec. 11, police said someone reported a man who barricaded himself in the 600 block of 73rd Street. The person who made the barricade report is known to the man, and they said he was reportedly armed.

Police said it was a domestic-related situation, and the man was alone.

At 1:29 a.m. on Dec. 12, the suspect was detained, following what the police called a “tactical situation.” The suspect has since been identified as Tilfer Jr.

Tilfer Jr. is currently being held at Newport News City Jail. He faces one count of assault on a family member and one count of pointing/brandishing a firearm.
