BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. – A Norfolk Naval Shipyard civilian employee temporarily assigned to the Nuclear Power Training Unit in Ballston Spa, New York, tested positive for coronavirus on March 23.

Reports say the worker is isolated at their lodging and restricted in movement to comply with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Guidelines.

A thorough contact investigation will be conducted to determine whether any other personnel may have been in close contact and possibly exposed will be conducted. Depending on the results of that investigation, additional precautionary measures may be taken.

NNSY leadership at NPTU Ballston Spa say they have been actively working to prevent any potential spread of COVID-19 through social distancing and cancellation of meetings and events. All personnel have been strongly encouraged to follow CDC preventative recommendations to ensure a healthy working environment.

The company remains in close coordination with state and federal authorities, and public health authorities to ensure the well-being of personnel and local population.
