NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk Police are investigating a deadly shooting.

The shooting took place on Sunday around 5:40 p.m. in the 3000 block of E. Virginia Beach Blvd.

Police said a 17-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. A suspect was also taken into custody by the police.

News 3 responded to the scene of the shooting, which is located at a 7-Eleven/BP gas station.

On Monday police said as a result of the investigation, investigators charged 32-year-old Jayvon Smith with second-degree murder, and use of a firearm.

Norfolk’s Commonwealth Attorney Ramin Fatehi arrived on scene after police. He tells News 3 his office will be prosecuting the case if and when charges are brought.

"I’m out here tonight as part of my ongoing commitment to either be personally at every scene or homicide or have one of my senior prosecutors here. I’m here to serve as a resource to the police if they need anything on the legal side. Also to educate myself about the crime scene so I can be more effective at prosecutor if and when charges are brought, Ramin Fatehi, Norfolk's Commonwealth Attorney tells News 3's Leondra Head.

We are working to learn more details.
