NORFOLK, Va. - The Norfolk City Republican caucus declared Sunday that voters selected their Republican nominee to succeed Former Democratic Del. Joe Lindsey and fill the 90th House of Delegates seat.

The seat became available after Joe Lindsey resigned last month in order to become a Norfolk judge.

Sylvia Bryant won against Navy veteran Mario Portillo, and she will run against Democratic nominee, Angelia Williams Graves, in a special election on January 5.

According to the Republican committee, Bryant is on a mission to champion COVID-19 business solutions, revitalize crumbling infrastructure in schools, stand up for safe neighborhoods, and protect Second Amendment rights.

Historically, the seat is blue, with only one Republican winner who served one term, since 1982.
