VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Celebrating New Year’s Eve this year will likely be a lot different, without big parties and crowds. One hotel in Virginia Beach is hosting an event that mixes in some of the traditional party elements while keeping guests socially distant and compliant with COVID-19 regulations.

The Holiday Inn and Suites at 3900 Atlantic Avenue is hosting a unique celebration. Guests are invited to “check out” of 2020 and “check inn” to 2021.

The local band, Vinyl Headlights, will be playing live from the courtyard so guests can overlook from their private balconies to see and hear the concert. Organizers also have a large LED screen to play family-friendly holiday classics beforehand, as well as the New Year’s Eve countdown from Times Square.

“We’re in the industry where we’re supposed to cater to people and house them, and you know, be hospitable. It’s hard to do that when nobody’s here during the off-season, said Mary Elizabeth Collins, General Manager. “So it’s a great way to get to know even some of our neighbors that will come down and do their little escape with their family and just something to give back to the locals so they have somewhere to go for New Year’s Eve.”

Guests will also be invited to swim at the heated, indoor pool where a limited number will be allowed in at a time. Organizers have also invited a food truck to be on-site with kid-friendly food that families can take back to their rooms.

The Holiday Inn said it will allow no more than six guests in one room. The New Year's Eve packages begin at $199. Click here for more information.
