ODU Police investigate armed robbery at university apartment's parking lot

NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University Police are investigating an armed robbery that took place at one of the university's parking lots.

Police say the robbery was reported on Wednesday at 7:25 p.m. in Lot 2 of the Village, located in the 4400 block of Killam Avenue in Norfolk.

According to police, two people met through an online platform and agreed to terms for the exchange of electronics for money.

They agreed to meet near the campus and eventually met in Lot 2.

Police say a man reported during the exchange he met with two people to complete the exchange through a point of sale cash app.

Police say the suspects instead took the man’s property and fled on foot with one person pulling out their gun before leaving the area.

Police say no one was injured and the investigation remains ongoing.

Police patrols have been increased in the area.

Police remind the community on the dangers of using cash apps. According to officials, suspects have been known to target individuals who post property for sale online and take advantage of them of the situation to rob them of their possessions.

Police recommend using well-lit public places or identified SAFE Places to conduct these transactions.
