CHESAPEAKE, Va. - PETA is donating over 100 bags of dog and cat food to the foodbank at the Taylor Bend YMCA.
Leaders of the organization say they felt the need to donate because they are worried some people are struggling to make ends meet who have animals to feed during this difficult time of the coronavirus outbreak.
So, the local organization wanted to relieve the stress of families going through this pandemic with pets.
PETA's Manager of Local Affairs Rachel Bellis explained that, “We always help people out with animal food, but in times like this when everything is so urgent, we really are asking people when they are at the grocery store buying food for their own companion animal to buy an extra bag or a couple of extra cans too. Drop them off to us, and we will make sure they get into the right hands.”
The group has also set up a donation box at its headquarters - the Sam Simon Center which is located on Front Street in Norfolk - where people can drop off sealed bags of animal food.
