PORTSMOUTH, Va. - The Mercy Chefs are back on the road!

The Portsmouth-based organization is preparing for travel to Florida in response to Hurricane Delta.

The team is gathering equipment and prepping for meal service.

“We will always go when we’re needed, so the more storms we see, the more often we’ll go. The bigger the storms are, the larger our response is gonna be,” said Gary LeBlanc, the Founder and President of the organization. “We know the people there, we’ve already made calls, we have potential sites —the land, regardless of where the track takes the storm, and where we’ll set up and who we’ll partner with.”

This year, the Mercy Chefs team helped victims of Hurricane Laura in Louisiana, people affected by Hurricane Hanna in South Texas, and provided relief after the tornado in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

In July, the nonprofit announced they had served five million meals to people in need.

Delta is set to make landfall later this week.
