Portsmouth restaurant shooting leads to police pursuit ending in crash

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Portsmouth Police are investigating a shooting that took place at a restaurant.

On January 5, 2021, around 2:31 p.m., police responded to a report of at the Golden Skillet, located near 3500 Victory Boulevard.

When officers arrived they found one person sustained an injury from shattered glass. As officers were at the restaurant crime scene, officials received another call about a suspicious dark SUV that fit the description of the vehicle involved.

The vehicle fled once officers arrived and a pursuit began through the Downtown Tunnel. The suspect vehicle then crashed into safety barriers and struck another vehicle before coming to a stop after making contact with a tractor trailer.

All eight people in the vehicle fled the scene, but were caught by police.

Officals say warrants were secured the night of the incident and additional charges are pending.

Detectives recovered four handguns, a rifle, and the vehicle returned stolen from Virginia Beach.

This investigation remains ongoing.
