OUTER BANKS, N.C. - Power has been restored to Hatteras and Ocracoke Islands after a widespread outage left residents in the dark Thursday night.
Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative reported the outage around 8:19 p.m. About 45 minutes later, the company said the outage was due to a fault on the transmission system between Avon and Buxton.
Crews were able to secure the broken ground wire that cause the outage and restored power to both islands around 9:30 p.m.
