HAMPTON, Va. - Wednesday, Hampton health officials confirmed a raccoon that had been in a fight with a family dog that tested positive for rabies.
According to the city's health department, the fight between the dog and raccoon took place in the Foxbridge community in the city's Fox Hill area.
The raccoon was euthanized, and tested positive for rabies after being delivered to the State Laboratory in Richmond.
Hampton health officials say anyone who sees a sickly animal, particularly a raccoon, should call the Hampton Animal Response Team at (757) 727-6111. Additional information can be found by calling the city's health department at (757) 727-2570.
