PHOENIX, Ariz. - In the quest to ramp up COVID-19 vaccine distribution, some states are turning to retirees.

In Arizona, the National Guard has been providing refresher training for retired medical professionals who have volunteered to help administer vaccines.

Dr. Clive Grant is a retired Professor of Surgery at the Mayo Clinic and is one the volunteers.

"It seemed pretty easy to make a decision that if I could do something that is seemingly as simple as helping with vaccinations that would just be something that I wanted to do," Dr. Grant said.

Once trained, volunteers are being sent to administration sites that need the help.

Medical students are also being trained to help administer shots.
