State Police investigate fatal crash after 80-year-old man strikes tree in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE, Va. - State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that took place on Saturday.

According to officials, police responded to the crash around 3:49 p.m. on southbound I-664 just north of the Bowers Hill Interchange.

Police say 80-year-old Norman T. Nachbaur, was driving a 2001 GMC Yukon when it ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

Nachbaur died at the scene. According to police, he was wearing a seatbelt.

A medical emergency is considered to be a contributing factor in the crash, however the crash remains under investigation.
