VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - After nearly two months, Hampton Roads' most unique bakery is back open on Tuesday.
Sugar Plum Bakery on Laskin Road is known for just as much for its employees as it is for its delicious cakes and pastries.
The bakery, which doubles as a non-profit, employs people with disabilities.
They haven't been working for the since the beginning of April, however. The bakery shut down temporarily after the coronavirus pandemic hit.
Tuesday, June 2 will be its first day back open. According to Executive Director Trish Clark, Sugar Plum will serve take and fulfill to-go orders outside its front entrance for the first week.
It's all to keep employees and customers safe.
Sugar Plum is located at 1353 Laskin Road and can be reached at (757) 422-3913. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
