SUFFOLK, Va. - The Suffolk Police Department and Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded after a tractor trailer carrying a large number of live hogs overturned in the 5400 block of Godwin Boulevard early Friday morning.
Dispatch received a call for the crash at 1:20 a.m., and the roadway was closed for several hours as the tractor trailer was uprighted. The driver was not injured.
The truck was carrying between 160 and 180 hogs at the time of the crash, and Smithfield Foods sent a response team to the scene, police said. It's not clear at this time how many animals are injured or dead.
As of 10:45 a.m., the crash was cleared and Godwin Boulevard reopened to traffic.
