GLOUCESTER COUNTY, Va. - Two hunters were rescued from a sinking boat Tuesday morning.

At 8:38 a.m., officials received a call from two hunters who said they had capsized their boat in the Mobjack Bay, west of Big Island. The hunters told officials they were trying to climb on top of the boat and did not have any life jackets onboard.

Crews immediately responded to the area, including the AVFR Marine Incident Response Team with assistance from the U.S. Coast Guard, Virginia Marine Resources Commission, and York County Department of Fire and Life Safety, due to a potentially large search area and low air/water temperatures.

A VMRC plane located the two hunters and was able to communicate with AVFR Boat 2 and guide responders to the hunters quickly.

Officials say the rescued hunters were brought to Crown Pointe Marina were they were released on scene without any serious injuries.

Officials remind everyone to please remember to take safety precautions when out on the water. Wear your life jacket, have reliable communications, and ensure that someone on shore knows your float-plan.
