VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The 2020 United States Census will observe Census Day nationwide April 1, 2020, and local cities could lose federal funding if citizens don't get counted.

The City of Virginia Beach said in a tweet that it loses $20,000 of federal funding over a 10-year period for each person not counted.

The lack of funding would impact schools, roads, hospitals and other public sector investments.

Households will begin receiving official Census Bureau mail with detailed information on how to respond to the census in mid-March, according to the 2020 Census website. Click here to learn more.
