VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - A Virginia Beach man was sentenced to serve 15 years and 7 months in prison for rape and drug possession on Monday.

30-year-old Omar Macera was sentenced by a judge to 35 years in prison with 19 years and 5 months suspended, leaving 15 years and 7 months to serve. Officials say this sentence was the high-end of the term recommended by the Virginia State Sentencing Guidelines for the charge of rape.

The judge found Macera guilty of these charges after a trial on January 22, 2020.

According to officials, evidence proved that on October 14, 2018, Macera raped a juvenile known to him. A relative of the victim walked into the room and witnessed the aftermath of the assault and officials say the victim immediately disclosed the attack to the relative.

During this time, officials say Macera went to the bathroom. The charge for drug possession stems from a bag of cocaine that was found in the drain of the home, which officials say Macera hid.

While he was in jail awaiting trial, Macera called a family member and alerted her to the location of the cocaine. She then called police and they came out to retrieve it.
