VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Officers are investigating two gunshot wound cases that happened just a mile apart in the 800 Block of Maitland Drive and 1700 Block of Pathfinder Drive.

Police responded to a shooting in the 800 Block of Maitland Drive Monday morning, according to a tweet from police around 5:30 a.m. Police say the call for this shooting came in before 2 a.m., a few hours before another shooting on Pathfinder Drive.

Police then responded to a report of gunshot fired into the home on Pathfinder Dr. around 4:49 a.m.

Upon arrival, officers discovered one victim who was shot. The person was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say in both shootings someone from outside shot into the victims' homes. Both victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

In both neighborhoods, longtime residents say this is a rare case of gun violence for their quiet neighborhoods.

"I’ve been living out in this neighborhood for 20+ years and we don’t have things like that happen," said Lashar O’Neil.

O’Neil says he was awake when the shooting happened on Maitland Dr. and heard three gunshots,

"I was sitting there for like a good 10-15 minutes, like just startled, like did that really just happen?"

According to officials, it is too early too determine if these cases are related, but it is being investigated.
