Virginia Beach School Board will hold special meeting Thursday to discuss starting face to face instruction

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The School Board of Virginia Beach City Public Schools is holding a special meeting Thursday night to discuss starting face to face instruction.

Members of the public will be able to watch the School Board meeting through livestreaming on the division's website, and on Zoom through this link.

The agenda for the meeting says that members are "To discuss the start date for face to face instruction for families choosing Option 1 and certain special education students."

For students whose families selected Option 1, if the health metrics remain steady or improve, and staffing requirements are met, then VBCPS intends to continue phasing in face-to-face instruction on the following schedule:

  • Sept. 29 – Pre-K, Kindergarten, Grades 1 and 2
  • Oct. 6 – Grades 3, 4 and 5
  • Oct. 8 – Grades 6 and 9 (to correspond with the beginning of second marking period)
  • TBD - Grades 7 and 8, 10 through 12

Public comments are welcome by the School Board through their group e-mail account at vbcpsschoolboard@googlegroups.com.

Thursday night's special meeting starts at 6 p.m.

There will another School Board meeting discussing back to school measures on September 22.
