Virginia coronavirus case total passes 100K; Hampton Roads, surrounding areas make up 23% of daily case rise

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving coronavirus cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 100,086 total cases, 96,167 of which are confirmed and 3,919 are probable. There are 2,326 total coronavirus related deaths, with 2,214 being confirmed and 112 being probable.

The case numbers are up by 897, and deaths are up by 4 since Saturday.

Hampton Roads and its surrounding cities reported 210 new cases, 15 hospitalizations and 1 death from Saturday's report. Our viewing area made up 23.4 percent of Virginia's daily case update.

A total of 1,240,339 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Sunday, there are 896 people currently being hospitalized for confirmed coronavirus. There are 362 people receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are still pending. Combined, there are a total of 1,200 being hospitalized for coronavirus related illness. That's 58 less hospitalizations from Saturday.

The total statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations that have been reported over time is now 8,369.

260 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

146 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 600 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 3,071 in the state - that's 20% usage.

12,923 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.

  • Chesapeake 2,912 cases, 230 hospitalized, 37 deaths (+40 cases, +4 hospitalizations from Saturday)
  • Accomack 1,100 cases, 80 hospitalized, 16 deaths (+5 cases from Saturday)
  • Northampton 296 cases, 48 hospitalized, 29 deaths (+0 cases from Saturday)
  • Hampton 1,228 cases, 50 hospitalized, 7 deaths (+18 cases from Saturday)
  • Norfolk 3,700 cases, 191 hospitalized, 30 deaths (+3 cases, +3 hospitalizations, +1 death from Saturday)
  • James City County 608 cases, 59 hospitalized, 16 deaths (+6 cases from Saturday)
  • Newport News 1,827 cases, 80 hospitalized, 18 deaths (+11 cases from Saturday)
  • Poquoson 44 cases, 2 hospitalized, 0 deaths (+1 case from Saturday)
  • Williamsburg 126 cases, 12 hospitalized, 6 deaths (+4 cases from Saturday)
  • York County 366 cases, 14 hospitalized, 4 deaths (+5 cases from Saturday)
  • Portsmouth 1,759 cases, 133 hospitalized, 25 deaths (+1 case from Saturday)
  • Gloucester 160 cases, 13 hospitalized, 2 deaths (+4 cases from Saturday)
