Virginia reports 1,216 new coronavirus cases; Virginia Beach reports only death in Hampton Roads from Thursday

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving COVID-19 cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 104,838 total cases, 100,603 of which are confirmed and 4,235 are probable. There are 2,370 total COVID-19 related deaths, with 2,255 being confirmed and 115 being probable.

The case numbers are up by 1,216, and deaths are up by 7 since Thursday. Our viewing area made up 30.6% of the case increase. Chesapeake saw the biggest increases with 76 new cases, 3 hospitalizations and no deaths from Thursday.

A total of 1,316,037 COVID-19 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia.

There are some positives as the percent positivity is now below 10-percent in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. "The seven day average has been declining, which is tremendous for the City of Virginia Beach," said Erin Sutton, the Director of cManagement for Virginia Beach. "I think we're seeing a lot more people following the rules and a lot more businesses actually holding folks accountable."

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Friday, there are 860 people currently being hospitalized, confirmed with COVID-19. There are 439 people receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are still pending. Combined, there are a total of 1,299 being hospitalized for coronavirus related illness. That's 41 more hospitalizations from Thursday.

The total statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations that have been reported over time is now 8,650.

268 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

150 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 628 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 3,080 in the state - that's 20% usage.

13,477 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.
