Norfolk, Va. – The Virginia Zoo wants to see your best “zoo at home” in a new contest they are launching for its annual calendar.

In previous years, the Zoo featured 12 images from local and regional photographers, but this year they want to see creative artistic renditions, from all ages, of Virginia Zoo animals.

“With safety mandates and limited capacity, we realize that not everyone is able to make it out to the Zoo at this time,” said Greg Bockheim, Executive Director of the Virginia Zoo. “But that doesn’t mean our wildlife can’t still be celebrated and explored. We’re excited to see the community’s take on our animals through this fun and creative outlet,” Bockheim added.

The Zoo is asking for its fans to electronically submit flat, 2D images that depict their favorite Zoo animal, which could include: colorful drawings, vector illustrations, paintings or even photos of their children dressed as a Virginia Zoo animal.

12 unique works of art will be selected and featured alongside the Zoo’s featured animal of the month. Winners will be notified in September 2020 and will receive a copy of the Zoo’s 2021 Calendar.

Physical artwork will not be accepted, all submissions must be made through the Zoo’s website.

You can submit entries at this link. There can be no more than 1 entry per person. The contest is open from August 3 at 10 a.m. to August 14 at 5 p.m.
