SUFFOLK, Va. - The long-time celebration of Suffolk's most famous crop is back for its 45th year!

The Suffolk Peanut Festival opens its gates at 4 p.m. Thursday at Suffolk Executive Airport. This year's celebration is Mardi Gras-themed with the slogan "Laissez les bon temps rouler."

Let the good times roll!

Volunteers and vendors have spent the last several days preparing all the rides, games and food stations.

"We’re set for the bands and the fireworks. It’s just a big undertaking that’s really done out of love and dedication for the city of Suffolk and the community," said Theresa Earles, who runs publicity for the festival.

The festival runs through Sunday and follows a year where organizers say 100,000 attended. It takes 200-300 volunteers to work the festival.

Thursday deals include free admission and Carload Night — all-you-can-ride at a cost of $50 for everyone in the car, up to eight people.

"One price and it’s all you can ride the whole night. On Sunday, there is a wristband that’s $30 per person and that’s all you can ride. We also have Military Appreciation Day on Sunday and that’s half-price admission for military, first responders," said Earles.
