VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - A drive-thru food pantry has come to the Virginia Beach community.

The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore hosted a drive-thru food pantry for Virginia Beach residents on Tuesday.

About 60 pounds of food per household were distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. All groceries were pre-packed into bags and/or boxes containing a mix of fresh and shelf-stable foods. Staff loaded the food into the trunks of vehicles.

The pantry was open to Virginia Beach residents and too place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Veterans United Home Loan Amphitheater parking lot.

This comes as grocery prices rise nationally, leaving many families in need.
