NORFOLK, Va. - Lemonade stands are a great way to beat the heat, especially on days as hot as today.

At one local stand, all the money raised is going to a very good cause.

One Chesapeake family took a whole new meaning to the summertime tradition. The Smith family is answering.

Randi Smith and her kids wanted to do a lemonade stand but once her kids heard about the huskies at the Norfolk SPCA they wanted to give back instead.

The shelter put out the call for help last week after they received a number of huskies that had been neglected and in desperate need of help. According to the city's SPCA, $25,000 is needed to be raised to continue the emergency medical care, socialization, and adoption placements of the many Huskies that arrived at the SPCA with no advanced arrangements.

"We are a family of dog lovers, animal lovers of all types so anything to do with animals we like to help you know and I try to teach my kids you know little things can amount to big things."

So far, the lemonade stand has raised over $600 via cash, and online donations.
