On Monday May 4, News 3 kicked off a Virtual Food Drive to benefit the Southeastern Virginia, the Peninsula and Albemarle Food Banks.

People gave to the Virtual Food Drive through the month of May. Additionally, on May 7 we did virtual phone bank.

The Food Bank's mission is to eliminate hunger in our community. During the coronavirus pandemic, the amount of people in need of food has been greater so we aimed to help fill that need with the Virtual Food Drive.

For every $10 donation the Food Bank receives, they can assemble and distribute up to $60 in grocery products.

Our viewers donated a whopping $64,249.46 during the food drive!

The Scripps Howard donation donated $10,000 and Southern Bank donated $15,000.

The total donated to local food banks was $89,249.46, News 3 says thank you to all who donated!
