SUFFOLK, Va. – Married for 50 years, Linda and Charles Woodson were celebrating Valentine's Day with their friends.

About 200 people turned out for the Suffolk Parks & Recreation Active Adult Sweetheart Ball on Wednesday. It was held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn Chesapeake/Suffolk at 5921 Harbour View Boulevard.

Organizers said tickets sold out two weeks ago.

Suffolk Parks & Recreation invited active adults 55 and older to this event.

They dressed in their Valentine’s best and enjoy an afternoon of dining and dancing.

They said the event was $10 per person and included a plated meal of fried chicken, macaroni and cheese and mixed vegetables.

Senior Mary Britt said, “I love it. I love it just like I love Christmas. Every day could be Valentine's - every day.”

The event has continued for the last several years.
