NORFOLK, Va. - Wake Forest University and the Atlantic Coast Conference have called an audible on Old Dominion University's 2020 season opener, originally scheduled for Friday September 4th at S.B. Ballard Stadium in Norfolk.
The Monarchs will still face the Demon Deacons during the 2020 college football campaign - however the game has been moved from to Friday October 9th at Wake Forest's Truist Field in Winston Salem.
"I appreciate Old Dominion Director of Athletics Wood Selig's partnership to enable our contest with ODU to move from Norfolk, Va. to Winston-Salem," Wake Forest Director of Athletics John Currie said. "We look forward to our future trip to Norfolk, understanding that our non-conference schedules in the coming years will evolve as we mitigate the effects of this season's changes."
Last month, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced all of its teams will play an 11-game schedule featuring 10 league games and one non-conference contest. Mandated by the ACC, all non-conference opponents, selected by the respective school, must be played in the home state of the ACC institution, and all non-conference opponents must meet the medical protocol requirements as agreed upon by the ACC.
This is the second change for the 2020 ODU/Wake Forest game. In January, the two schools announced the contest had been moved up one day from Saturday September 5th to Friday the 4th.
