VIRGINIA BEACH, Va - The NCAA announced Wednesday that Hampton Roads' newest sports venue has been selected to host four NCAA Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship meets between 2023 and 2026.

According to the NCAA, the Virginia Beach Sports Center will host the 2023 and 2026 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, the 2024 Division III Indoor Championships, and the 2025 Division I Indoor Championships.

When factoring in athletes and spectators, the four NCAA events are expected to bring more than 10,000 visitors to our area.

Norfolk State University will serve as the host institution for an NCAA Championship event for the first time and will be the first HBCU to host an NCAA Division I national championship track event.

“NSU is honored to be chosen as the host for the track and field national championships,” said Melody Webb, NSU Director of Athletics. “The strategic partnership with the Virginia Beach Sports Center to submit a bid was a group effort by everyone involved. The NCAA Championships will be an incredible addition to the Hampton Roads community.”

“The City of Virginia Beach is proud to be selected as the host site for four NCAA championship events," said Nancy Helman, director of sports marketing for the Virginia Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau. "These events are the pinnacle in the sport of indoor track and field. Our world-class venue, the Virginia Beach Sports Center, and our championship city are ready to welcome the student-athletes, coaches, families and fans. When we built this facility, we had our sights set on hosting this event, and we are so excited."

According to the NCAA, it received more than 3,000 bid submissions from NCAA member schools, conferences, sports commissions and cities vying to host predetermined rounds for 86 of the NCAA’s 90 championships.

Host sites were chosen in 43 states as well as the District of Columbia.
