A person was injured Thursday afternoon while a United States Naval Academy building was being cleared, according to Naval Support Activity Annapolis.

Maryland Congresswoman Sarah Elfreth said a midshipman was injured, CBS reports. They were flown by medevac to a hospital.

"Thankfully, the Midshipman who was injured during the clearing of a building is in stable condition," Elfreth said.

Navy officials said there was no active shooter threat. The NSA said the lockdown on Thursday was prompted by reports of suspicious activity on Naval Academy grounds, CBS reports.

The academy in Annapolis was working with local law enforcement to respond to the reported threat, Lt. Naweed Lemar, the spokesperson for the base that hosts the academy, said in a statement.

“The base is on lockdown out of an abundance of caution,” he said on Thursday. "This is a developing situation and we will provide updates as they become available.”

Police were near Bancroft Hall, which houses midshipmen in its more than 1,600 dorm rooms. It is considered the biggest single college dormitory in the world, according to the school's website.
