No Leads in 8-year-old Hampton Girl’s Shooting

Posted

LaShae Toliver does not like to talk about the night a stray bullet nearly ended her life.

"Because it`ll bring back memories," said the eight-year-old second grader.  "I felt scared."

Her bad memories have been made worse because the person who caused her so much pain is still out there.

"When she first came from the hospital, she didn`t want to go in the house," said her father Jeffery Stokes.  "I guess because the memory was still fresh in her mind."

As LaShae was sitting down to dinner with her family on March 21, 2012, someone started shooting outside of her Augusta Street home in Hampton.  A bullet barreled through the wall, pierced the back of LaShae's head, blew out some of her front teeth, then shot out of her mouth.

"If there's any case we need the public to step up, it's this one," said Hampton Police Department Spokesman Jason Price.

Price told NewsChannel 3 LaShae's case has been particularly difficult to investigate because she was an innocent bystander.

"Normally, we would work through the victim to find the suspect, but because she's completely innocent, we can't do that," Price said.
