A Newport News Walgreens manager took action to keep a customer from getting scammed.
And just in the nick of time.

On a Wednesday morning inside the Warwick Boulevard Walgreens, store manager Stephanie Wise watched a scammer's sinister plan play out on an unassuming elderly customer.

"He had her 100 percent convinced that she was going to get this money."

"I wanted to take care of her, I felt like I was taking care of my own mom."

The woman told Wise that a man named Michael Washington called with big news. If she put $500 on one of these money cards for him, he'd deliver $3.5 million to her!

"You hear of these type of things all the time, and when she said, buy a money pack card to give to a man she didn't know, I just knew that no, that's not right."

Instead of just walking away, like many others would have done, Wise took action.

"I think instinct just kicked in; I really didn't even think about it. I just knew."
