Suffolk high school senior asks gold medalist to prom

Posted

A Suffolk high school student is sending a special request for a special prom date.

"A bunch of my friends we were just joking about which celebrity we would take to prom," said Kings Fork High School student Danielle Jennette.  "I kind of just thought, I wanna take Ryan Lochte!"

Jennette's doing just about everything to get the gold medal winner's attention.

"I created my twitter account, my Facebook page, just to see where it would go," she said.  She also created YouTube video.  Her efforts even earned her a tweet from the swimmer on her birthday in October.

"He wished me a happy birthday so that was pretty cool," she said.  "I think he's pretty awesome!"

Jennette's a swimmer, too.  Plus, she said he wouldn't look bad in her prom pictures.

"He's not bad to look at either," she said.

Jennette said it's not just Lochte's leaps and bounds in the pool that caught her eye.  His charity work inspired her to take action.

He sponsors a lot of charities and I like that about him too.  So I decided I wanted to help out with that too," she said.  "Even if he didn't want to go out with me it would still benefit his charity.  It'sParent Project Muscular Dystrophy."

Jennette's fundraising efforts have raked in $170 so far.

"I emailed his assistant manager and he emailed me back a couple of days later and was like you know I've seen your efforts, it's awesome and I'm definitely gonna mention it to Ryan," she said.

Jennette's prom will be held May 24, 2013.
