Newport News, Va. - Hundreds of men stood together at Newport News City Hall, praying for an end to violence.

The inaugural "Men Stand" event was the vision of 30-year-old minister Rashad Cartwright.  He worked with religious and community leaders to get 1,000 men to stand together in prayer against violence.

Cartwright said the 300 men, women and children from all walks of life who attended made the event a success.

"It's not the number of men, it's the men that it gets through to," said Cartwright.  "If it gets through to one or two, it's a success."

Cartwright said the group plans to come back to Newport News City Hall in six months to decide how they will take action.
