Norfolk, Va. - A local businessman is Taking Action and helping a nine year old boy go to school at Norfolk's Tarrallton Elementary without fear -- something that has the boy's mom shedding tears of thanks.

The boy is Jason Dunn. He has myelodysplastic syndrome, a form of cancer.

Due to this disease, Jason has a weakened immune system. His mother, Courtney Dunn, says it's very serious.

"The common cold could put him in the hospital; the common cold could be life threatening to him," she says.

But Jason's mom can rest a little easier thanks to one local businessman, Dan Roberts.

Roberts is a local distributor of medical equipment, including a special device with the nickname, the "Germinator." It emits a special mist, killing bacteria and viruses. After the kids are dismissed, Roberts regularly sets it up at no charge.

Jason's mom, Courtney had tears streaming down her face when I asked her what this means to her.

"A lot...it really makes it feel safe for him," she says,

And for those reasons, Roberts was presented with a NewsChannel 3 People Taking Action award and a $300 Visa gift card from our community partner Southern Bank.

Roberts, who doesn't have any kids at Tarrallton Elementary, found out about Jason's condition through the school nurse. They go to the same church and realized he could help take action with his medical equipment.....the "Germinator."
