Groundbreaking on the replacement to the aging Herbert C. Bonner Bridge over the Oregon Inlet is finally about to happen. North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory will do the honors as part of a ceremony scheduled for Tuesday morning at 10am on the south side of the current span.
Preliminary work on the replacement span began in February. Drivers over the Oregon Inlet have already noticed changes on the southern approach to the span. They've cleared vegetation and added erosion control measures.
