NORFOLK, va. — Twelve-year-old Jackie Meeks was diagnosed with stage 4 large-cell lymphoma two years ago.
“It was really scary and hard because I didn't know what was going to happen, but I got through it because of my belief in God,” Jackie said.
After six rounds of chemotherapy, she is now a survivor — 19 months cancer‑free — thanks to her faith and the care she received at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD).
“Her mission and the reason she’s out here is for those fighting. She knows what it feels like, and she wants them to know she’s right behind them,” her mom Katie said.
This young LemonAid ambassador and CHKD are asking people to take part in the annual LemonAid fundraiser to raise money for the CHKD Cancer and Blood Disorders Center.
“About 70 children a year in the Hampton Roads area are diagnosed with cancer, and being able to be treated here is, hands down, a blessing,” said Katie's mom.
You can help by hosting your own neighborhood lemonade stand.
“To sign up, visit kingsdaughters.org and pick up a kit,” the organizer said. “The kit comes with a pitcher, a banner to hang on your table, lemonade powder and cups," said a CHKD representative.
